I Am Learning To Write A Recount

My Cross Country Race

On Tuesday there was a Cross Country Race at school.

First we had to line up at the starting line. I was feeling nervous. Next Miss Moston said ready, steady go!! I was not in the lead at first but I caught up!

And then there was my second lap. I kept trying really hard and started overtaking some of my friends. I was nearly there at the finish line. I was puffing and panting. My heart was beating very very fast!

Finally I came to the finish line and I came first in Room 7. I was slowing down and I was sweating!

Mrs Robertson and Miss Moston handed out the certificates. Mrs Robertson gave a certificate to me and Sofia and Escada. I came first and Sofia came second and Escada came third. I was overjoyed!!! My feet hurt because I sprinted like a rocket. I felt happy because I tried my best. I was very tired that day after the race!

Respect: Have a caring attitude to others
=>we had to share our wheels and take turns on the course
=>we had to look after our friends if they got hurt

Responsibility: Be prepared for the day
=>we had to bring our safety equipment for the wheels day

Resilience: Participate in a new experience at EPS
=>we had to make good choices and be sensible when riding our wheels
=>we had to ask a buddy or teacher for help if we had a problem with our wheels

I Am Learning To Read With Fluency And Expression

I need to remember to:
*think about the meaning of the words as I read
*add expression by changing the volume, speed, and feeling in my voice
*read smoothly and quickly (not like a robot)

When I read with fluency and expression it helps me to understand the text more!

It also helps other people to understand the text more too.

I am Learning to Try New Things.

We took part in a trial soccer clinic. We learned a new game called 'Shark Attack' and played a game of soccer in a big blow up field! The message of the lesson was to try new things and give it a go even if you feel nervous.

Success Criteria:
- take part in the games
- treat peers and team mates with respect and be a good sport
- have fun!

I am Learning to Use Punctuation Correctly.

Last week we celebrated Matariki with a pyjama and breakfast morning at school!
It was lots of fun and gave us good ideas to write about. Our focus in writing has been on using different types of punctuation correctly.

I need to:
- Use at least two different types of punctuation.
- Use the punctuation in a way that makes my writing more interesting.
- Put the punctuation in the right places.

This morning the year twos celebrated Matariki. We ate breakfast at school! We never eat breakfast at school. We wore our pjs! After that we had to get changed. It was exciting! We had cereal. It was yum. We had toast and fruit. It was amazing! I like the jam toast and I had Milo. It was yummy!

My Reflection
I am proud of how I put all of the full stops in the right places.
It can be a bit tricky to use different types of punctuation like question marks and ellipses.
I think that I could try harder to use more punctuation in my every day writing.

I am Learning to Skip Count in Twos.

I am in Wha group for Maths. We have been learning to skip count in 2s.

I need to:
- recognise the number pattern when skip counting in 2s
- be able to skip count in 2s to 100

My Reflection
I find skip counting in twos easy, but skip counting in tens is the easiest.
Skip counting can help us to count things faster.
